The 8 point liquid facelift is a technique described by Dr Mauricio de Maio using dermal filler in 8 strategic points to achieve rejuvenation in a face that has suffered from volume loss due to aging.

This technique provides a quick and easy solution to volume loss due to aging with little down time. It is done in your doctor’s office using topical anaesthetisation and usually takes about an hour to do, depending on your particular needs. Although the 8 points are visited in each patient, the treatment should be tailored to your own face, since volume loss is not uniform across all patients.

Due to making use of only dermal fillers, it is entirely non-surgical and also non-permanent, which can be seen as a pro or a con depending on your particular needs.  The results are instant, and also improve over the two weeks post-injection. The “facelift” typically last 9 – 12 months, and may require maintenance or touch ups during that time to ensure that you are always putting your best face forward. Hyaluronic acid fillers also activate the body’s own collagen forming cells, and many patients experience an improvement in skin quality months after the injections have been given, giving an extra boost of youthfulness and radiance to your face.

Side effects of such a procedure are relatively rare, but as with any procedure involving needles, bruising and swelling can occur. These should be treated as normal bruises and can be improved by icing them or using topical products such as arnica oil.

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are considered safe in well trained hands, and other more serious side effects are rare but may include lumpiness under the skin and discolouration of the skin. The very worst complication that could possibly occur is vascular compromise, which is treated with a substance that immediately dissolves the product and should not have any long term effects if treated correctly and promptly.
