Have you heard of the Dermapen® or wondered what it does or whether you “need” it? Chances are if you have any problems with your skin Dermapen® can probably help you!
The device is not dissimilar to roller techniques or to conventional mesotherapy, in that the mechanism of action is to cause controlled microinjury that creates channels for delivery of product to the deeper layers of the skin. Where the Dermapen® may be superior to these other means is that where mesotherapy uses only one needle, the Dermapen® has 12, and while mesotherapy is done by hand, the vibrating nature of the Dermapen® ensures that the surface area treated is far greater than that of mesotherapy. The roller devices may be able to cover larger surface areas, however the nature of a roller is such that as the needle leaves the skin it may cause tearing and unwanted damage to the skin, while the Dermapen® has a punching straight up-and-down motion, meaning that the needles are always at 90 degrees to the skin and cannot tear the skin.
The benefit of this treatment has many facets. First of all the controlled injury in itself even without combining the treatment with active products causes activation of growth factors and collagen that tightens, smoothes and refines the treated skin, reducing the size of pores, evening skin tone and eliminating some fine lines and scars while giving the skin a rejuvenated look. Specific active products can then also be added (depending on your desired outcome) during the treatment, allowing these products to be delivered much deeper than any topical agents can go and ensuring beautiful results.
The major uses of Dermapen® include:
- Skin tightening and rejuvenation
- Improvement in skin tone and quality
- Reduction in active acne and acne scarring
- Improves stretch marks and scars
- Reduction in wrinkles and fine lines
- Minimizes pore size
The Dermapen® can also be used in conjunction with PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma, derived from your own blood (vampire facial) to give an even more youthful and refined result.
